VOTERS’ REGISTER: GO AND REGISTER – AKUFO-ADDO TO GHANAIANS

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has appealed to go out and register when the registration exercise for the compilation of a new voters’ register begins.


According to the President, it is the civic responsibility of every Ghanaian to go out and get their new voters’ cards ahead of the 2020 elections.

“Go and register, I appeal to every Ghanaian to go and register, it is our civic right to do so,” the President said during his 4th State of the Nation Address which was boycotted by the Minority in Parliament.

The President also added that “Things are working in Ghana and Ghana is changing. Our country is in good health and in competent hands.”
 
The EC has said it was planning to procure a new biometric voter management system (BVMS) and compile new voters register since the current system is outdated.
While some 13 political parties led by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have thrown their weight behind the EC for the new BVMS and compilation of the new register, the Inter-Party Resistance against the New Voters Register made up of six political parties led by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has kicked against it.

Meanwhile, the EC says the procurement of the new BVMS and compiling of a new register will save the country GH?173.07 million, compared to upgrading the current system.

Deputy registrar for Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Dr. Bekoe has told Nana Ampratwum that only final year students would be studying on campus whilst others continue studying online. Speaking on the Omanbapa morning show, he said the 6th year medical students would spend 3 weeks on campus for exams before they end the semester and the 5th year also follow suit afterwards due to social distancing. This follows the easing of Covid-19 restrictions to enable educational institutions to re-open for final year students on June 15. Dr. Bekoe also clarified that no students has been asked to come for their belongings at the campus as speculated on the social media.

To the Editor, Why I didn’t show up for the morning news production on Monday On that fateful day (Monday, April 4 th 2022) I was preparing to come and produce the morning news despite the heavy rainfall and lack of electricity in my area. I was ready to come around 4:30am when my father ordered me to wait due to crime rate in my area and especially such an ungodly hour. From where l stay, I have to board a taxi to the main road before getting a car to work but unfortunately, there was no car at the time I arrived there around 5:10am because of the rain and lack of electricity. I had no other option than to wait because I might be attacked if I decided to walk to the main road that’s why I couldn’t get here on time to produce to morning news.   Have confidence; I’m determined to fix economy despite downgrade – Nana Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is confident Ghana’s economy will bounce back despite the recent downgrade by international rating agency, Standard & Poor’s (S&P). S&P last week downgraded Ghana’s foreign and local credit ratings from B-B’ to CCC+C with a negative economic outlook. According to S&P, the downgrade was due to intensifying financing and external pressures on the economy.
