WORLD CANCER DAY: CANCER TREATMENT SHOULD BE PART OF THE NHIS SCHEME- MAWEREHENE TO GOV’T
Otumfour Mawerehene, Baffour Bretuo Hyiaman VI is pleading to the government to as a matter of include the cancer treatment in the National Health insurance policy to enable anyone affected get treatment.
According to him, many people cannot afford the money for their cancer treatment which leads to death.
He noted that, the doctors themselves know that, not everyone can afford the money.
He made this statement during the celebration of the World Cancer Day at the forecourt of the Oncology Department at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital with the theme “I am and I will”.
In attendance included the Kumasi Mayor Osei Assibey Antwi, Special Aid to Otumfour who doubles as the Mawerehene, Baffour Bretuo Hyiaman VI, nurses and students from Arm Forces, Asanteman SHS, Super Kass, and T I Ahmadiya SHS.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO of Kath, Dr. Baffour K. O Opoku disclosed that, the Oncology department of KATH each year records an average of 850 new cancer cases in men, women and children.
He added that, most adult with cancer consult the doctors late due to the lack of education, traditional beliefs etc.
