Drivers and passengers reject new fuel levies in 2021 budget
Some drivers and passengers within the country have rejected the 5.7 percent increment in fuel levies announced in the 2021 budget statement.
According to them, the increase in the levies will affect their sales and welfare.
Government is introducing ten pesewas Sanitation and Pollution and twenty
pesewas Energy Sector Recovery Levies to be charged on the price per litre of
petrol and diesel under the Energy Sector Levies Act ESLA.
A combination of the increases in the petroleum levies will result in 5.7
percent increase in fuel at the pumps.
The drivers added that, the government is not being fair to them while others
believe the levies are for a good cause.
Some drivers who ply the Tema-Akosombo route said, the increment of the fuel will have a huge impact on their operations given that prices of fuel have gone up already.
“The fuel prices are already high and it is really expensive these days even though we have not increased fares, if the government should increase the toll fare we will take the laws into our own hands,” one of them said.
