Teaching LGBT+ in schools shouldn’t be considered at all – KMA Director of education

Mr. David Oppong, Metro Director of Education for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has stated that, inclusion of LGBTQIA+ should be the last thing to consider in our education curriculum.

Mr. Oppong’s comment comes on the back of the statement by the former Director of Education’s comment.

A former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Charles Aheto-Tsegah has called for the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender/transsexual [LGBT+] activism in the education curricular.

Mr Tsegah noted that when included in the education curricular, children will gain knowledge on the discussions and the practices of the LGBT+ society to make an informed decision in future.

While many have turned down the decision to allow GES to enroll the Comprehensive Sexuality Education subject into the education curricular, Mr Tsegah thinks otherwise.

According to him, children are thought about other social vices to help them desist from committing mistakes in the future and not for them to practice them.

But reacting to the issue on OMANBAPA MORNING ON SILVER FM monitored by Hotnewsingles.com, Mr. David Oppong told the host of the show, Nana Ampratwum that teaching LGBT+ in our various schools will not help but will rather inculcate bad attitude into our children.

Election 2020 petition: The Petition lacked some merit-Allotey Jacobs

Former Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Bernard Allotey Jacobs has stated that, he is not surprise the petition was dismissed because it lacked some merit.

According to him, the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama just filed the petition as a trial and error game meant to revive his 2024 bid and keep a stranglehold on the party.

He described the petition filed at the Supreme Court as perfectly devised to deceive party faithful.

The Supreme Court yesterday upheld the results of the 2020 presidential election, saying the petitioner failed to prove that the winner did not cross the constitutionally required threshold of more than 50 per cent of the votes cast.

The ruling means President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will continue in office as President until his second term is over.

Nana Akufo-Addo polled 51.3 per cent of the valid votes, according to figures from the Electoral Commission while the petitioner, who was the 2020 flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Mahama, polled 47 per cent.

Delivering the judgment, Chief Justice Anin-Yeboah said: “the petition is dismissed as without merit.."

Mr Mahama went to court to challenge the result of the 2020 polls after the EC declared Mr Akufo-Addo winner.

He argued that neither he nor President Akufo-Addo crossed the threshold to be declared winner.

He, therefore, did not understand why the Electoral Commission (EC) declared Nana Akufo-Addo the winner and the President-elect and has, subsequently, been sworn in.

Mr Mahama had prayed the Supreme Court to order a rerun of the election between himself and Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr. Jacobs added that, the whole petition was meant to make the chairperson of the EC look bad in the eyes of the public.

I’m disappointed with the Supreme Court verdict- Okoe Vanderpuije

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Constituency, Hon. Okoe Vanderpiuje has expressed his disappointment towards the Apex Court for dismissing the petition filed by John Dramani Mahama.

According to him, the Supreme Court judges’ denial of the many applications lawyer of petitioner John Mahama filed affected the chances of the NDC in making a solid case against the EC.

The NDC MP described the verdict of the Supreme Court as unfortunate adding that he and other members of the party are disappointed.

“I think it is an unfortunate decision for the NDC. When I looked at the proceedings right from the beginning I am not surprised, because I had the opportunity to follow it and see how many times petitions by our lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata were dismissed all over,” he told the media.

He alleged that the EC Chairperson Jean Mensa was also protected after the application for her to testify was denied adding her silence affected the ruling.

“There was a lot of denial of our steps and stages which could have led us to also prove our case by bringing in Madam Jean Mensa to also testify on somethings.”

Okoe Vanderpuije said that he and the millions of people who voted for the NDC in 2020 are all disappointed in the judgement.

He, however, said that the NDC will take the decision in good stride, move forward and work towards winning the next elections.

I thank all my Lawyers for their valiant fight-Mahama

The flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has express his deep-seated appreciation to his lawyers, led by the colossus of a legal mind, Tsatsu Tsikata, for a valiant fight, which has won the admiration of many.

According to him, against considerable odds, they persisted and drove home our point in a manner that convinced all fair-minded observers about the just cause we had embarked on.

He disclosed that his lawyers who represent him in the just-ended election petition offered their services to him for free.

Addressing the nation Thursday, Mr Mahama offered his sincere gratitude to his legal team for the firm support given him during the Court hearing.

The former President further intimated that although the case didn’t go in the favour of the NDC, he was appreciative of all who played a role on his behalf during the election petition hearing.

Mr Mahama urged all NDC partisans to hold their heads high and channel their disappointment into hard work adding that, “the NDC will survive and grow from strength to strength, the sun may have set on our hopes for the just-ended election today, but it will rise tomorrow and illuminate our path to a better outcome next time around”.

This comes after Mr Mahama who lost the 2020 Presidential elections took the Electoral Commission to court, challenging the validity of results and the declaration of President Akufo-Addo as the winner.

But after almost 3 months of trial, a seven-member panel of Supreme Court Judges in a unanimous decision, on March 4, dismissed the election petition filed by the 2020 NDC Presidential Candidate.

This, according to the apex court, is because the case before it has no merit thus it will not order a re-run of the election as the petitioner sought.

National Chairman of Education Think- Tank in the Techiman of the Bono East Region, Mr. Benjamin Oteng Marfo has urged the government and the Ghana Highway Authority to as a matter of urgency provide speed humps and zebra crossings in front of all schools on the highways across the country to reduce students and pedestrians knock down in such areas.

He bemoaned the high speed of some drivers and calls for the demarcating of the zebra crossings as early as possible.

He added that, when their plea is considered, it can reduce the carnage near various schools in the country.

He expressed his satisfaction towards the Ghana Education Service (GES) for suspending the celebration of this year’s 64th independence parade due to covid-19 but appealed to leadership to adopt the shift system in the school with higher populations to help curtail the spread of the virus.
