Let’s come together to make 1 D 1F initiative reality- Trade Minister

Minister for Trade and Industry of Ghana, Hon. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng is pleading with Ghanaians to come together and help construct factories in their districts under the One- District, One- Factory initiative.

Speaking to the media in Accra, he stated that, it is high time Ghanaians desist from been propaganda and support the government’s initiative.

According to him, the government will partner with any private entity who will construct a factory in the district they belong.

He added that, construction of factories in the district will both help the government and the district as a whole.

A cumulative number of 282,792 direct and indirect jobs under the One-District-One Factory initiative will be created when an additional 150 companies under construction are completed, Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen has said.

This comes after the minister providing an update of the industrialization initiative disclosed that 278 factories were under various stages of implementation with some 150,975 direct and indirect jobs already created among companies currently operational since its inception in 2017.

“The companies that are currently operational have created a total number of 150,975 direct and indirect jobs. When the additional 150 companies under construction are completed, the cumulative number of direct and indirect jobs that would be created will amount to 282,792,” Alan Kyerematen told Parliament, Wednesday.

“Since the beginning of the programme till date, there are 278 1D1F projects which are at various stages of implementation. Out of this number, 104 companies are currently in operation, 150 are under construction and 24 are at the mobilization stage. 165 out of the 278 companies are new projects, representing 60%, whilst 113 companies are existing projects that are being supported, representing 40%,” he said.

The One District-One Factory initiative forms part of the New Patriotic Party administration’s agenda towards industrialization; value addition and job creation.

The initiative is hinged on promoting local participation in economic development with the motive of encouraging community-based public/private partnerships with an aim of yielding results through a massive private sector-led nationwide industrialization drive.

The industry-focused agenda also seeks to equip and empower communities to utilise their local resources in manufacturing products that are in high demand both locally and internationally.

Already, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his government’s resolve to establish some one million enterprises across the country before the end of his second term in office.

Touching on the Komenda sugar Factory he said, there was no productivity when the erstwhile NDC government was living the office.

He added that, their focus was to make sure Komenda Sugar factory begins production.

NDC YOUTH VANDALIZED PARTY OFFICE

  Irate youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Suame Constituency have vandalized the office of the National Democratic Congress at Suame. Leader angry youth, Mohammed Naail speaking to Silver fm reporter, Akwadaa Nyame, the executives  within the party has failed to meet up to their expectation. According to him, the constituency Chairman does not vote at the Suame Constituency hence he can’t become the Chairman of the party per their rules. He added that, there is an injunction on Shaba by the court that prevents him from entering the party’s office. GHANA RISK OF FOOD DROUGHT IF DESERTIFICATION PERSISTS-WETLAND MANAGER WARNS

Dickson Agyemang, Operations manager for Wetland under the Forestry Commission has revealed that consistent desertification of lands and building in water ways may lead the country into food crisis in the coming years. Ghana is losing more than 20 percent forest reserve every year due to desertification such as mining activities, felling down of trees and the likes, he revealed when speaking on Omanbapa show with Nana Ampratwum. He added that Ghana is in a risk of food crisis and extreme poverty if we continue the activities that destroy farmlands and forest reserves. Mr. Agyemang therefore encouraged Ghanaians to report people who build in water areas for legal action to be taken against them.
