Opuni trail: Is normal to transfer Judge in a criminal Case- Lawyer Bekai

Constitutional Lawyer, Lawyer Kofi Bekai has stated that, it is normal for the Supreme Court to transfer a Judge who is already sitting on a criminal case.

The Supreme Court has in a majority decision upheld the motion for Justice Clemence Honyenuga to discontinue hearing the case involving Dr Stephen Opuni and two others at the High Court.

The five-member panel of the court in a three-two majority ruled that, Justice Honyenuga, a Justice of the Supreme Court, sitting as an additional High Court Judge, was prohibited from continuing with the trial.

Justice Gabriel Pwamang, Justice Agnes Dodzie and Justice Amadu Tanko granted the application, while the presiding judge Justice Jones Dotse and Justice Lovelace Johnson dissented.

The panel also granted the request for portion of the ruling on submission of no case to be quashed.

Lawyer Bekai speaking to Nana Ampratwum on Silver fm Omanbapa morning show said, the new Judge who will be appointed will have to start the court hearing process again.

According to him, it doesn’t matter the years the court proceedings have taken according to law.

He again revealed that, you must write a petition to the Supreme court and prove it beyond reasonable doubt why you want a Judge to be step aside from an already court hearing.

NDC YOUTH VANDALIZED PARTY OFFICE

  Irate youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Suame Constituency have vandalized the office of the National Democratic Congress at Suame. Leader angry youth, Mohammed Naail speaking to Silver fm reporter, Akwadaa Nyame, the executives  within the party has failed to meet up to their expectation. According to him, the constituency Chairman does not vote at the Suame Constituency hence he can’t become the Chairman of the party per their rules. He added that, there is an injunction on Shaba by the court that prevents him from entering the party’s office. Dickson Agyemang, Operations manager for Wetland under the Forestry Commission has revealed that consistent desertification of lands and building in water ways may lead the country into food crisis in the coming years. Ghana is losing more than 20 percent forest reserve every year due to desertification such as mining activities, felling down of trees and the likes, he revealed when speaking on Omanbapa show with Nana Ampratwum. He added that Ghana is in a risk of food crisis and extreme poverty if we continue the activities that destroy farmlands and forest reserves.
