Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill: I commend anyone who fought for this bill- Fmr Speaker

Former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Rev. Aaron Mike Quay Oquaye has commended the legislators for fighting for the Anti- LGBTQI+ bill in parliament.

According to him, Parliament itself cannot dialogue on issues except is been raised by someone.

He added that, LGBTQI+ activity should not be entertained in the country.

The ‘Proper Human Sexual and Ghanaian Family Values Bill’ 2021 has been finally laid in parliament.

The second deputy speaker Andrews Amoako who was presiding referred the bill to the Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament.

The Bill is a private members’ legislation sponsored by eight Members of Parliament – seven from the NDC and one from the NPP.

The bill mostly titled the anti-LGBTQ bill, proscribes people of the same sex to engage in sexual activity. People engaged in the act could be fined or jailed for between three to five years.

Rt. Aaron Oquaye revealed that, he wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister of Britain when he was the 2nd Deputy Speaker to ascertain why, they had included LGBT into international aid (Any country who doesn’t accept LGBT will not benefit from the British government).

He stressed that, he stood on his grounds that, Ghana never accept LGBT in the country.

He revealed that, the International Court of Justice has declared that, homosexuality is not human rights as been speculated by the LGBTQI+ activist.

Speaking on the Omanbapa morning show, he said the 6th year medical students would spend 3 weeks on campus for exams before they end the semester and the 5th year also follow suit afterwards due to social distancing. To the Editor, Why I didn’t show up for the morning news production on Monday On that fateful day (Monday, April 4 th 2022) I was preparing to come and produce the morning news despite the heavy rainfall and lack of electricity in my area. I was ready to come around 4:30am when my father ordered me to wait due to crime rate in my area and especially such an ungodly hour. From where l stay, I have to board a taxi to the main road before getting a car to work but unfortunately, there was no car at the time I arrived there around 5:10am because of the rain and lack of electricity.   Have confidence; I’m determined to fix economy despite downgrade – Nana Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is confident Ghana’s economy will bounce back despite the recent downgrade by international rating agency, Standard & Poor’s (S&P).
