Covi-19 will be a thing of the past: Dr. Aboagye Dacosta

The Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Aboagye Dacosta has assured Ghanaians that, covid-19 will soon be eradicated from the country.

Ghana has taken delivery of 177,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to vaccinate people who are yet to receive a COVID-19 jab.

The vaccine is the first batch of the Africa Union’s African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) initiative delivered to Ghana.

The consignment was received at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Saturday, August 7, 2021, by a Deputy Health Minister, Tina Mensah.

Ghana has recorded 409 new cases whiles total case is 108, 226, active case stands at 6,969 with 100, 383 recovered and 874 dead.

According to Dr. Aboagye Dacosta, only a single dose of the vaccine is needed to vaccinate a person unlike the previous when Ghanaians took two jabs of the COVAX vaccines.

He added that, “The active cases of the covid-19 will gradually reduce after taking the vaccine and soon Ghana will be free from the covid-19”.

He noted that, President Akufo Addo is still negotiating for more of the vaccines to help vaccinate Ghanaians to help curtail the covid-19 in the country.

“The Ministry of Health will continue to deliver on its mandate of ensuring a healthy population for national development”, he said.

He again advised Ghanaians to continue to adhere to all the safety protocols to help curtail the spread of the virus.

“Continue to wear your nose mask, wash your hands frequently with running water and soap or use liquid base hand sanitizer, avoid touching face with your hands”, these protocols if followed can help us get rid of this pandemic, he said.

Nkwanta-Akrofrom marks Akwasidae festival

The chiefs and people of Nkwata-Akrofrom  in the Afigya Kwabre South District in the Ashanti Region have celebrated this year’s Akwasidae festival with a call for unity to rebuild Akrofrom near Nkwanta.

Akwasidae is celebrated among the Akans at the end of every traditional calendar month, as families take advantage of the festival to reunite, take stock of what happened throughout the period and plan towards the future.

Nana Kofi Krah II announced his renewed loyalty to the Akyenpimhene and Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II and promised to contribute towards the development of Nkwata-Akrofrom and the Asante Kingdom.

He also renounced litigation and said, ‘it only brings about poverty and deprivation’.

Nana Kofi Krah II noted that his persistent quest to reunite all the royals and the people of Akrofrom was paying off as the royal families and other aggrieved family members were returning home to join the process of building a unified traditional area.

He, however, advised the district chief executive and the member of parliament with backing from hidden faces who sought to frustrate the development of Nkwata-Akrofrom to repent, stating that their efforts would be futile because the unflinching resolve of the people to build Nkwata-Akrofrom could not be stopped.

In a short sermon, Nana Kofi Krah II, advised the youth to be circumspect about what came out of their mouth to avoid any future mishap. He then advised them to refrain from the act of homosexuality adding anyone who will be caught in the act will be banished from Nkwata Akrofrom land.

Some of them speaking to Joynewsplus said, “The only toilet facility in the area has turn into a dead trap which has make it difficult for us to go there hence the decision to either go to the bust or to the dumping site to ease ourselves”, they said.

They added that, the roads in the community and the entire Amansie West Constituency is one of the bad roads in the country.

“We always have to go the mechanic to have our vehicles fixed due to the poor nature of the road” some drivers lament.

They stressed that, majority of them are farmers and they find it difficult to ply the road and sell their goods due to the state of the road hence the need for the government to intervene.

They disclosed that, they have informed the Assembly but all have proved futile.
