John Boadu rejects claims NPP dishonestly won more parliamentary seats in 2020 elections

General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu is fighting off claims that he admitted to allegations regarding the use of dishonest means to win some parliamentary seats during the 2020 elections.

Speaking in an interview with wih the media, Mr. Boadu insisted that the governing party legitimately won 137 seats.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin in an interaction with a delegation from the Ethiopian Parliament, alleged that John Boadu admitted that NDC won more seats in Parliament, but some last-minute moves were made to snatch some of the seats from the NDC.

“They would have had a Majority in Parliament with a President. Their General Secretary even announced it but at the last minute, made some movement and some seats were snatched. That one is a statement of fact,” Mr Bagbin added.

But, Mr Boadu has rejected the claim, insisting that he never made such a comment to the Speaker in person or even at a press conference.

According to him, he has never ever and I haven’t said it anywhere and the Speaker is somebody he doesn’t have discussions with.

John Boadu further noted that it came to him as a shock upon hearing the comments made by the Speaker.

Mahama doesn’t have the moral rights to make bad comments against Bawumia- Dr. Boako

Spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Gideon Boako has stated that, former President, John Dramani Mahama doesn’t have the moral rights to make bad comments about the Vice President.

Former President John Dramani Mahama during his “Thank you tour” has taken a swipe at the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, on issues concerning the country’s economy.

Mr. Mahama believes the Vice President is engaging in propaganda with the economy.

Dr. Bawumia recently said, the economy has begun showing signs of recovery following the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Mr. Mahama thinks otherwise. He described the claims as dishonest and laughable.

He noted that, “The dishonesty is so glaring that sometimes it is laughable. You can do all the propaganda about the economy, but the reality of people’s lives will expose you.”

But Dr. Gideon Boako reacting to this said, “Mahama whom Ghanaians suffered a lot under his government shouldn’t have made such statement”.

According to him, Mahama is speaking as if everything was going on well during his time.

He added that, no President in the history of Ghana has lost elections with a large margin except John Dramani Mahama during the 2016 general elections.

He noted that, John Dramani Mahama is speaking as if he is an Angel who helped develop the country economically.

It is embarrassing that an insincere Akufo-Addo is always attacking Domelevo – Dr. Apaak

Member of Parliament for Builsa South Dr. Clement Apaak has slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo describing his recent utterances against former Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo as embarrassing.

Speaking to the media he said, the President has consistently impugned the reputation of Mr. Domelevo after crudely hounding him out of office.

Dr. Apaak says the President is on an unholy crusade in fighting persons who are willing to fight corruption and expose them to the rot under his administration.

He was reacting to comments made by the President when joint Civil society organizations against corruption paid a courtesy call on him.

The President at the meeting claimed that the current acting Auditor-General whose 2020 report exposed how misappropriation and contract irregularities among others cost the nation some Ghc12.8 billion had done what Domelevo could not do.

But Dr. Apaak says the President removed Mr. Domelevo from office because he was exposing crime under his government including the role Mr. Osafo Marfo allegedly played in the Kroll and Associates saga.

He added that, there can be no doubt that Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo remains the most effective, courageous, and truly independent Auditor General Ghana has had so far in the history of the 4th Republic.

Lies are part of Politics- Allotey Jacobs

Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Bernard Allotey Jacobs has revealed that, politics is a full of lies.

According to him, Politics is a game that, you try to convince Ghanaians to vote for you ahead of elections.

He added that, “If half of Ghanaians believe what you are saying then you’re heading towards victory”.

He made this known after how he together with some members of the NDC deliberately spread falsehood about the then President John Agyekum Kufour to make him and his party unpopular in the eyes of the right-thinking public.

Their plan, according to him, was successful as the then ruling NPP lost the 2008 elections to their party.

Mr. Jacobs recounted how they continuously ‘lied’ that the then President had built a huge cold store in the Ashanti region because he had plans to relocate the sea from Central Region to the Ashanti Region.

They alleged that Kufuor also took a bribe of $5 million from a Kuwaiti oil guru.

Mr. Allotey Jacobs in his chase for forgiveness from the ex-President narrated how he was warmly welcomed by Mr Kufuor.

He said the meeting was a dream comes true because “I have been longing to beg Kufuor for years.”

Allotey Jacobs again said, the only way to eradicate lies from Politics is to educate Political students and the NUGS.

Senior Lecturer and Senior Research fellow of Kumasi Technical University’s Institute of Research, Innovation and Development (IRID), Dr. Smart Sarpong has appealed with the government to bring onboard notable people to the negotiating table.

According to him, government should not bring anyone who doesn’t bear a state flag because they know the relevant people who can negotiate with them.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has suspended its strike and has also agreed to return to the negotiation table on Monday.

This follows an emergency meeting, its leaders had with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

Both parties [Government and UTAG] have also resolved to discontinue the legal processes concerning the protracted strike and have given themselves a one-month timeline to settle all outstanding issues.

But Dr. Smart said, the negotiation will be fruitless if notable people are not brought on board.

I kissed the students to add human touch to the appreciation; I’m sorry – Anglican priest

The Anglican priest at the centre of the widely-condemned public kissing of the three teacher trainees at the St. Monica’s College of Education, Rev. Father Balthazar Obeng Larbi, has apologised for his actions.

Rev. Father Balthazar Obeng Larbi, the Chaplain, and lawyer of the all-female teacher trainee institution was seen in a viral video fully dressed in his cassock, force-kissing three students in turns, in the full glare of a cheering audience.

In one instance, he was seen gesturing to one of the girls, who appeared very uncomfortable with the move, to take off her face mask before holding her head and giving her a kiss on the lips.

He noted that the three students seen in the video performed extraordinarily well and were therefore called to be appreciated by him.

“An attempt to add a human touch resulted in the scene in the video,” he explained.

“Accordingly, I am sincerely sorry for my actions seen in the video. I seemed to have taken a number of things for granted. I did not think my behaviour through, and I admit that the act and its setting are wrong even in the absence of Covid-19.”

He further apologised to the leadership of the church for the embarrassment his actions has caused.

“I sincerely apologise to my Archbishop, the entirety of the Anglican Communion, the College, the affected students and their families, and the generality of the public.”

“I pray for forgiveness from all and sundry and plead that you hold me in your prayers during these trying times. May God bless us all.”

The viral video, shot by someone in the audience, generated outright condemnation on social media, although a few people jumped to the Reverend father’s defence, describing his action as a ‘holy kiss’.

UTAG strike: Various Campuses will have a meeting

The National Vice President of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), Prof. Dr. Okyere Addai Mensah has stated that, they will have a meeting with the leaderships of the various Campuses and inform them about the decision they have taken at 2pm today.

According to him, the leaderships of UTAG had a meeting with The National Executive Council (NEC) yesterday and will have to inform the students about the outcome of that meeting.

A Memorandum of Agreement signed by the government and UTAG and after the meeting noted that “both parties agree that there is a need to get back to the negotiating table from the week beginning Monday 23rd August 2021.”

During the period, government and UTAG will among other things negotiate the research component of the Book and Research Allowance, market premium, and non-basic allowance.
