Annoh-Dompreh Blasts NDC Minority over Agenda 111 Propaganda

The Majority Chief Whip, also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has rubbished the Minority in Parliament for describing the government’s Agenda 111 initiative as nothing short of a public relations rhetoric to appease angry citizens.

President Akufo-Addo recently cut sod for the commencement of the construction of Agenda 111 hospitals initiative across the country and has been criticized by the biggest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The Minority in Parliament claimed the Agenda 111 initiative to build hospitals across the country within 18 months is just a populist tactic to make the country feel that there is the urgency to construct 111 hospitals because of the coronavirus pandemic.

But the Majority Chief Whip reacting to the Minority’s claim asked them to shut up if they do not have anything reasonable to say.

According to him, the Minority intends to undermine the efforts of the government as they believe the initiative will project the ruling government.

Explaining the agenda behind the initiative, Annoh – Dompreh stated that “Agenda 111 has been a longtime project of the NPP, “we did not just decide to implement such a policy and I think the minority must get their facts right before they criticize. With this project, eminent people were assessed, and at a point in time, they even had to look for land. The government decided to certify validation, so all lands for the projects have been validated”.

Road Accident: Majority of accidents are caused by overtaking- NRSA

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has bemoaned the sudden spike of road accidents in the country.

According to their data, more than 1000 people in the country have died as a result of road accident from January to April.

Ten people yesterday died whiles others are receiving treatment at the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, after two Yutong buses with registration number GN 4741-10 and GS 6262-19, collided head-on at Gomoa Mampong on the Accra-Cape Coast highway yesterday.

This accident comes shortly after 9 persons were also confirmed dead after a Sprinter Benz bus they were traveling on got involved in an accident on the Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

The deceased are 5 females and three males, including a 6-month-old baby.

This adds to the numerous accidents that have occurred already this year, and taken many lives, while leaving several others injured.

Director- General of NRSA, Mrs. May Obiri Yeboah has stated that, majority of road accidents that have occurred within two- three weeks are caused as a result of wrong overtaking.

Akufo-Addo on CSOs: The President was performing for an audience – Bright Simons

The Honorary Vice President of IMANI Africa, Bright Simons has stated that he doubts the sincerity of President Akufo-Addo’s criticism of the operations of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the country.

His comment is in response to statements made by President Akufo-Addo when he met with the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition at the Jubilee House on the country’s fight against corruption.

The President was reported to have expressed concern about the politicization of alleged corruption-related issues but said he would continue to pay heed to the disquiets and suggestions on the matter to strengthen the fight against the canker.

“It is unfortunate that the perception is that the commitment of government is waning, especially when two or three facts are taken into account,” President Akufo-Addo stated.

Speaking to the media, Bright Simons explained that he formed this opinion because the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been known for employing CSO-type engagement, hence the President would only make such submission if the activities of CSOs do not support the interest of his government.

“Unless you are not a democrat, you don’t understand democratic participation, it will be very difficult to, with a straight face, hold that CSOs do not contribute remarkably, extraordinarily to the progress of our democracy and to the quality of our democratic institution, which is why I say that the President was performing for an audience.”

“That is surprising giving the President’s own party [NPP] has been a prolific user of CSO-type engagement with the political space in Ghana. [We have] Let My Vote Count, Alliance of Accountable Governance. The President’s party is one of the well-known pioneers for setting up politically aligned think tanks like the Danquah Institute. It dates back even before the transition into multiparty rule with the Young Elephants Club with a whole lot of civil society type engagement.
