Police shakes up: IGP is responsible for the betterment of the Police service- Hon. Toobu

 Member of Parliament for Wa West Hon. Supt. Peter Lanchene Toobu (Rtd) has stated that, shakes up in the Police Service are normal within themselves.

According to him, the Inspector General of Police is responsible for the betterment of the Police service. 

He added that, one must pass through a lot of test within the Police service before been appointed as the IGP.

He noted that, there are a lot of multi talents within the Police service hence it’s the responsibility of the IGP to notice that and make use of that talent.

His comments come after the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, rung the changes barely a week after assuming office.

According to high-placed sources, some 30 senior officers have been affected by the shake-up by Dr Akuffo Dampare.

The Director-General in charge of Welfare, COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, for instance, has been moved to head the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards (PIPS) Bureau while the former Director-General of PIPS, COP Vincent Redeemer Dedjoe, has been moved to Special Duties.

COP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s position has been taken over by DCOP Habiba Twumasi Sarpong, who until this shake-up was the Commander of the Central Regional Police Command.

Former Accra Regional Commander COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been moved from Special Duties to Administration with COP Edward Tabiri moved to head ICT from Police Intelligence.

COP Frederick Adu Anim has been moved from the Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) to Human Resources.

Deputy registrar for Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Dr. Bekoe has told Nana Ampratwum that only final year students would be studying on campus whilst others continue studying online. Speaking on the Omanbapa morning show, he said the 6th year medical students would spend 3 weeks on campus for exams before they end the semester and the 5th year also follow suit afterwards due to social distancing. This follows the easing of Covid-19 restrictions to enable educational institutions to re-open for final year students on June 15. Dr. Bekoe also clarified that no students has been asked to come for their belongings at the campus as speculated on the social media.

To the Editor, Why I didn’t show up for the morning news production on Monday On that fateful day (Monday, April 4 th 2022) I was preparing to come and produce the morning news despite the heavy rainfall and lack of electricity in my area. I was ready to come around 4:30am when my father ordered me to wait due to crime rate in my area and especially such an ungodly hour. From where l stay, I have to board a taxi to the main road before getting a car to work but unfortunately, there was no car at the time I arrived there around 5:10am because of the rain and lack of electricity.   Have confidence; I’m determined to fix economy despite downgrade – Nana Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is confident Ghana’s economy will bounce back despite the recent downgrade by international rating agency, Standard & Poor’s (S&P). S&P last week downgraded Ghana’s foreign and local credit ratings from B-B’ to CCC+C with a negative economic outlook.
