Talks underway to post teachers to private schools, supply gov’t textbooks – Schools Inspectorate Authority

The National Schools Inspectorate Authority says it is negotiating with the Ministry of Education to begin posting trained teachers to private schools in the country.

The move is also to supply private schools with government textbooks as it’s done in public schools.
According to the Authority, the effort is aimed at ensuring equity, fairness and quality education delivery in Ghana’s education system.

The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) have, in recent times, been brooding over the huge operational cost in running the schools as they have had to spend nearly 50 % more of their resources to run its schools, in the COVID-19 era, than they did in normal times.

But speaking at the 27th National Conference of Private Schools in Cape Coast, Director-General of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority, Dr. Haggar Hilda Ampadu, told the leadership of the Private schools, their pleas are being considered and trained teachers that are not posted to government schools would be sent to the private schools for the sake of fairness.

“Additionally, the Authority is currently in negotiations on behalf of private schools with the Ministry of Education on some interventions such as supply of textbooks to private schools, posting of trained teachers who have not been absorbed by the public school system to the private school system,” she revealed.

Give Kissi Adjabeng Free Hand To Operate – Ex Prez Mahama to Govt.

Former President John Mahama has urged government to allow the new Special Prosecutor to work without interference.
Government, he said, must also ensure that the Office is given all the support to undertake its work.

The new Special Prosecutor, Kissi Adjabeng, was sworn into office earlier this month. His appointment follows the resignation of Martin Amidu, who accused and described the President as the Mother Serpent of corruption.

Responding to a question during an engagement with journalists in Tamale, Mr. Mahama recounted the complaints of the previous Special Prosecutor that prevented him from doing his job effectively and expressed the hope that the new one will get the needed cooperation.

“The first Special Prosecutor did not get the kind of cooperation he needed to be able to do the work that he had been given. We heard him complain about funding of the office, in terms of logistics and finance to recruit the kind of personnel that he needed to do the job,” the former President said.

Kissing Anglican priest faces police investigations

Acting on the advice of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, authorities of St. Monica’s College of Education have lodged a case of sexual assault against the embattled Anglican priest who kissed students of the school.

Rev. Father Balthazar Obeng Larbi kissed three female students of the school on the lips during a Sunday Mass Service.

His conduct has since received wild public condemnation with calls for strict sanctions against the man who has been working in the past 5-years as School Chaplain and Lawyer.

He has since apologized for his conduct.

In an apology letter addressed to the Internal Province of the Ghana Anglican Communion, he prayed for forgiveness from the affected students and their families, the Bishop of the Anglican Church, St. Monica College of Education, and the Church.

He said his action was to “add a human touch” to appreciate Level 300 students who doubled as members of the school’s Chaplaincy Board who performed extraordinarily well and had been called for their Off Campus Teaching Practice.

But school authorities, led by the Acting Principal Venerable Dr. Okyere Korankye, have lodged a complaint with the Mampong Divisional Police Command.

Mampong Divisional Commander, Chief Supt David Kwaku Amoako, confirmed the police have started investigations.

He tells Joynews the embattled priest has been invited by the police for questioning.

Rev. Father Obeng Larbi is expected to present himself for questioning.
