UTAG strike: Blame the government- Apaak

Ranking Member on Education Committee in Parliament, Hon. Clement Apaak has urged Ghanaians to blame the government for the UTAG strike.

According to him, the government also uses low level public servants who don’t have any capacity to negotiate with UTAG.

He added that, there are capable people like the Minister of Finance, Minister of Education has never stepped in to give them assurance but rather sending these people hence the need for them to embark on a strike.

The Member of Parliament for Builsa South noted that, the UTAG members always feel disrespected by the government for sending these low level public servants to negotiate with them.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana, UTAG, is set to begin an indefinite strike from today, Monday, August 2, 2021.

In a communiqué on July 30, UTAG directed all its members to comply with the strike.

UTAG members on all campuses are to withdraw teaching and other activities like examinations, invigilation, marking of examination scripts and the processing of examination results

The association has been asking the government to restore the conditions of service agreed upon with the government in 2012.

He again added that, this strike will be one of the longest strikes in the country if the government doesn’t intervene.
