We will not comply with NRSA’s directive- GPRTU
Ashanti Regional Acting Chairman for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji Sumaila Boakye has stated that, they will not comply with the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) directive to educate drivers to help curb accident on the roads.
The Head of Planning and Programming at the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Mr. David Osafo Adonteng has disclosed on the Omanbapa Morning Show that, beginning from September, 2021, every driver must go for a Four (4) day intensive classes organised by NRSA in-collaboration with Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
According to Mr. Adonteng, failure to attend to this training will block his/her chance of renewing his/her license. He said this was part of their efforts as Authority to curb unnecessary carnages on our roads.
But Alhaji Sumaila speaking to Nana Ampratwum said,
the NRSA haven’t
officially informed the GPRTU ahead of this education summit.
According to him, they should have informed the National GPRTU or any regional Secretariat for them to have a dialogue on how the education summit would go.
He added that, though he commends the NRSA efforts to fight against road accidents in the country but they should have used the proper channel to invite.
He stressed that, they will not adhere to the said education summit by the NRSA.
