Guinea Coup: Yaw Buaben Asamoa Scolds ECOWAS & AU
NPP National Communications Director, Yaw Buaben
Asamoa has rebuked the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and
African Union (AU) over the current situation in the People's
Republic of Guinea.
A Military unit headed by a former French legionnaire, Lt Col Mamady Doumbouya
with his soldiers, on Sunday, September 5, 2021, detained Guinea's President
Alpha Condé in a coup attempt.
The Military takeover has become a matter of concern to Africans, particularly
Ghana as some fear it may have a ripple effect on the nation.
But to Mr. Buaben Asamoa, the Guinea's situation may be far from reaching Ghana
stating President Nana Akufo-Addo is a peaceful and democratic leader.
He believed there will be a smooth transition of power from President
Akufo-Addo to an NPP Presidential candidate during the 2024 elections, however
this will happen within the limits of the laws.
Mr. Yaw Buaben Asamoa took shots at the ECOWAS and AU partly blaming them for
the hapenings in Guinea.
To him, the Guinean situation might have been averted if the two bodies
had proactively acted when the signs were clear.
He asked ECOWAS and AU to be up and doing, therefore sanction African leaders
whose actions breach the countries' laws before it escalates into chaos.

‘Reckless’ Mahama Can Tour Ghana Today Because Akufo-Addo Managed COVID-19 Well - John Boadu
The Chief Scribe of the ruling New Patriotic Party
says former President John Dramani Mahama should rather commend the Nana
Addo-led government for managing the pandemic well than his ‘baseless’ attacks.
According to John Boadu, things have become normal in the country because of
how well President Nana Addo has managed the COVID-19 pandemic than most
developing countries.
He was reacting to John Mahama's earlier claims during his ‘Thank You’ tour
that the NPP is hiding behind the COVID-19 pandemic to mess up the economy.
But John Boadu noted that such claims from a former president “is more than
reckless” – after describing his comment as a ‘loose talk’.

President refunds salary increment to state chest
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has returned GH¢237,974, being the salary increment granted to him from January to August, this year.
The funds, paid into the Pensions
and Salaries Account of the Controller and Accountant - General's Department,
is in fulfilment of his pledge during this year's May Day celebration, not to
raise his salary, that of the Vice President, ministers and their deputies, and
other government appointments.
The measure is to minimise the
negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Ghana's public finance.
This was disclosed, in Accra, by Mr
Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at Presidency, at the weekly Jubilee
House Press briefing
Mr Arhin explained that when the
President received his accrued salary for the period, he noticed that the
directive to freeze increments on his pay for 2021 had not been enforced, thus,
“leading by example” he wrote a check on September 2, 2021, to cover the
increments on his salary to reflect the decision he took to reduce the stress
on the public purse.
The salary increments were those proposed by the Professor Yaa Ntiamoah-Baidu led Presidential Committee on Emoluments.

Next elections will be a ‘do or die affair at the polling stations’ – Mahama
Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the National Democratic Congress will be very vigilant at the polling stations during the 2024 elections.
Speaking on a Techiman-based radio station, Akina FM, he stated that the 2020 elections taught the NDC that elections can only be won at the polling stations, thus they will not let their guards down.
“We were clearly robbed but we accepted the verdict for the sake of peace, but I want to state here that the next elections would be won or lost at the polling station. so at the polling station, it will be do or die. I am not saying all die be die. I’m saying it will be do or die because the right thing must be done.”
“We will do everything to ensure that the election is free and fair. We will not cheat the NPP and we don’t expect anyone to cheat us either. Let the elections be peaceful and fair,” he added.
Mr Mahama, who is in the Bono East Region as part of his ‘Thank You tour’, further noted that “the party would not wait for the results from the collation centre or the Supreme Court but would win the polls at the voting centre,”
The Former President alleged that the NPP used the security agencies to intimidate members of the NDC in several Constituencies including, Techiman South.
“You see some Military and Police officers and ask whether these are indeed officers. They wear earrings and all sort of things and you can’t tell whether this is a Police officer or a Soldier. These are the people they used to intimidate us in the December polls and nothing has been done about it,” he said.
Mr Mahama thanked the people of the region for the overwhelming support the party enjoyed at the polls.
“We won 10 out of the 11 Constituencies in the Presidential Election. That shows how committed the people of the region are to the party. I say thank you so much for this,” he said.

Mahama cannot intimidate us, we are not cowards, we are men – Obiri Boahen warns over ‘do or die’ comment
Nana Obiri Boahen, Deputy General Secretary of the governing NPP, has sent a warning to former President, John Dramani Mahama and his supporters that, they should not attempt to intimidate NPP with their threat of a ‘do or die’ affair in the 2024 general elections.
According to him, the NPP has the men, therefore, John Dramani Mahama and his followers should not conceive that idea because there are men in the NPP and not cowards.
Nana Obiri Boahen’s comments come after the former president stated that the 2024 election is going to be a ‘do-or-die’ affair at the polling stations.
Mahama said, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has learned lessons from the 2020 general elections.
“This current president has made elections life and death for him, he uses his delta forces and invisible forces enrolled in the security agencies.
“We have learnt our lessons from happenings during the 2020 polls. The 2024 elections will be won or lost at the polling station. It will be do-or-die at the polling stations. The right thing must be done during the polls. We will win the elections at the polling station and won’t wait for collation centre results nor petition the Supreme Court if aggrieved,” the former president said during an interview on Techiman-based Akina FM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.
But Obiri Boahen added that, “This issue of ‘do or die’, I believe that we need to tread cautiously. I wasn’t expecting the former president to be drumming home, this issue of ‘do or die’. In fact, it is quite dangerous, honestly speaking. It is quite dangerous in the sense that during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-elections, the NDC came up with this slogan of ‘do or die, do or die’ and what happened eventually is part of history, a lot of casualties.
