Call off your strike; appear before us – NLC orders Health Services Workers’ Union
The National Labour Commission (NLC), has directed the leadership of the Health Services Workers’ Union to suspend its strike with immediate effect.
The directive comes as a result of the failure of the Health Services Workers’ Union to call off the industrial action after a meeting with the government.
The workers, who are made up of record personnel, lab technicians, orderlies among others, say governments have over the years, turned a blind eye to their plight.
But the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ofosu Asamoah speaking to the media called on the union to appear before the commission for deliberations and negotiations on its concerns about conditions of service.
According to him, the union didn’t inform them (NLA) of their action before embarking on same.
He added that, they have directed them to call off the strike and appear before the commission to settle the matter.

Minority demands status of Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill before Constitutional and Legal Affairs committee
The Minority in Parliament is demanding clarification on the status of the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021.
This, according to Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim, will allay fears of any unconstitutionality that may arise ahead of its Anti-LGBTQ bill’s deliberation on the floor.
Article 106 (14) indicates that “A bill introduced in Parliament by or on behalf of the President shall not be delayed for more than three months in any committee of Parliament.”
Speaking on the floor of the House on Friday, Mr Ibrahim argued that next week will be the third month since the presentation of the bill to the Committee.
He added that, this was a bill presented through a coalition, and some of the members are expecting too much from parliament but, unfortunately, nothing is being heard even though last week Mr Speaker himself was emphatic.
So far, over 100 memoranda have been received by the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee regarding the draft bill.
If passed in its current state, the document will criminalise the activities of LGBTQI+ and individuals and organisations that advocate or promote the activity in the country.

Suame: Soldiers attack police for arresting colleague riding unregistered motorbike
There is heavy security deployment at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters and the Suame District Police Command after police personnel and some soldiers clashed at the Suame Roundabout in Kumasi.
According to some of the eye witnesses, some police officers allegedly manhandled the plain-clothed military officer and handcuffed him.
They added that, the Police arrested him because he was using unregistered motorbike.
They revealed that, the military officer called his other colleagues, who then attacked the police officers.
There have been no formal reports of any casualties.
Police say they do not have enough information on the incident and are yet to formally comment on the incident.
Due to some of these disagreements between police and military personnel in the past, there have been calls for reform to establish clear oversight mechanisms and delineate security roles for the police and armed forces in Ghana.
In 2010 for instance, tensions flared between soldiers and police officers in Kumasi, when separate assaults carried out by soldiers within two days left 12 police personnel injured and police property destroyed.
The attacks began after a police officer attempted to arrest a soldier riding an unlicensed motorcycle.
The soldier threatened to return with reinforcements and attack the police officer and made good on the threat later that day.
Over the next two days, more than a dozen police officers across the city were assaulted by soldiers.
