Health records at TTH can be monitored at Korle Bu, no need for physical folders – Bawumia on digitisation
Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says government is revolutionalizing the state of healthcare delivery in Ghana.
According to him, the record-keeping framework at health facilities across the country has been digitised for effective administration.
As part of the plan, “all teaching hospitals and all regional hospitals have been connected and can talk to each other,” on a unified digital server.
He made this known at a public lecture on Ghana’s digital economy and how the government has used Information Communication Technology (ICT) to achieve many milestones, addressing social and economic issues.
The lecture, which happened at Ashesi University, was on the topic “Using digitisation to transform an economy – The Ghana story”.
Addressing the gathering on Tuesday, November 2, the Vice President explained that the days where records of patients were kept on papers were gone as some “36 health facilities in the Central region have also been connected to the digital platform in a pilot scheme.”
On the back of this, he said “now if you are referred from a hospital like Tamale Teaching Hospital to Korle-bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, you do not need to carry a folder. All your records will be seen and monitored by the doctor in Korle Bu when you arrive.”
He believes this measure has brought more efficiency into the healthcare delivery system.
Dr Bawumia told that gathering that the move has already eliminated “the need for queues and delays and also increasing access to health care by those who need the services most.”

His comment follows the increased attacks on bullion vans in the country. Already, the first half of 2021 has recorded four bullion van attacks.

Bawumia’s speech was not state of the Nation’s Address: Oppong Nkrumah
Information Minister, Hon. Opponh Nkrumah has chastised critics who assume that, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech on Ghana’s digital economy is the State of the Nation’s Address (SONA).
According to the Ofoase Ayirebi legislator, there would be more to it if Dr. Bawumia was addressing Ghanaians on SONA.
He added that, Dr. Bawumia though been the acting President of the country will not address the country.
He stressed that, their main reason was to let Ghanaians know what the country is driving at through digitalization.
