NDC will never scrap e-levy even if they regain power in 2081 – John Boadu
General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu is convinced the Electronic Transactions Levy, popularly known as e-levy, has come to stay.
He said just like the Communications Service Tax, popularly known as Talk Tax, innovative ways will be found in making deductions for the e-levy without unduly disadvantaging Ghanaians.
Addressing a news conference in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, November 25, the NPP scribe stressed that no future government will scrap the e-levy when it becomes operational.
“That’s a very innovative way of raising revenue [that] when the NDC came back to power in 2009, they did not remove the Talk Tax.
“So, I believe may be in future about 60 years time when the NDC returns, they will never scrap the e-levy. They will embrace it. They will be so happy. The only difference is that they cannot think like we do.”
But the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, aka, General Mosquito reacting to this said, the introduction of the e-levy at this time is not the right.
According to him, he can’t tell whether or not they will scrap the e-levy when they come into power.
He added that, every year has their own challenges hence it’s not necessary to debate either they will scrap it or not.

John Boadu, Osafo-Maafo must apologize or be hauled before Parliament for disrespecting Speaker – Agbodza
Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee of Parliament, Kwame Agbodza is pushing for the House to haul the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party and the Senior Presidential Advisor before it.
The Adaklu MP said that John Boadu and Osafo-Maafo have both made comments that undermine the authority of the Speaker, Alban Bagbin.
Speaking to the media, he contended that failure to take any action against the two will only encourage others to also disrespect the Speaker in a similar vein.
According to him, “How come John Boadu would go as far as saying that if Speaker wants the toll to be collected, he should go for and collect it himself? It is in clear breach of Order 30 of the Standing Orders and parts of Article 122 of the constitution”.
Citing instances in the past where some Ghanaians appeared before parliament for some unsavory comments, the MP insisted that “John Boadu and the Senior Minister should either apologize or be hauled before parliament.”
Speaking in the Central Region, John Boadu asked why the Speaker of Parliament did not consider assuming the role of toll collection personnel after directing the Roads Minister to withdraw a statement announcing the cessation of collection of road tolls.
