Police on manhunt for suspect who killed girlfriend, hid body in a fridge

The Volta Regional Police is on a search for a man who is suspected to have killed his girlfriend and kept her body in a double-decker refrigerator at Ho-Fiave.

Public Relations Officer for the regional Police command, DSP Afia Tenge speaking to the media said, neighbors of the suspect broke into his building after they sensed an unbearable stench emanating from his room on Monday, November 22.

According to her after forcing their way into the apartment, they found the girlfriend of the said tenant only known as Lizzy, dead in a refrigerator.

However, the tenant, Frank was nowhere to be found.

She added that, an investigative team proceeded to the scene and after careful inspection of the crime scene, the body which was at an advanced state of decomposition in a white double-decker refrigerator was conveyed to the Ho Municipal Hospital morgue awaiting autopsy.

She noted that, there was no mark on the deceased body after a careful examining on her body.

She revealed that, a search is underway to trace and arrest the said boyfriend who is believed to have killed the deceased.

 Recycling plants key for achieving clean Ghana agenda — Dep. Speaker of Hungarian Parliament

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament in Hungary, István Jakab, has underscored the need for Hungary and Ghana to work closely to ensure that more compost and recycling plants are built to help in achieving the government’s vision of a clean Ghana.

According to him, Hungary’s relationship with Ghana dates to some 60 years ago, adding that when the two countries form more partnerships they will bring about transfer of technology, knowledge and expertise in the waste management sector.

The Deputy Speaker of Hungary’s Parliament made the observation when he visited the Kumasi waste water treatment plant in the Bosomtwe District in the Ashanti Region on Monday, November 22, 2021.

He was conducted round the facility by the Executive Chairman of Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), Dr Joseph Siaw Agyepong, and some of his top management members.

István Jakab, who is officially visiting Ghana for the first time, gave the assurance that the Hungarian Government will not only support the Government of Ghana but private businesses as well.

The Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Tamás Endre Fehér, who was also part of the Hungary delegation to Kumasi, commended JGC for the project, and wished JGC more success in all its business endeavours.

The Executive Chairman of JGC, Mr Joseph Siaw-Agyepong, said, the waste water treatment facility in Kumasi is in operation and has engaged about 60 workers, with 95% of them from the Bosomtwe District.

1.7 Million More COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Arrive in Ghana

More than 1.7 million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Ghana today, bringing the total of U.S. donated vaccines to Ghana to more than 4.2 million doses since September. 

U.S. Ambassador Stephanie Sullivan was joined by Deputy Minister of Health Mahama Asei Seini, representatives of the Ghana Health Service, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong, and the UNICEF Country Representative to Ghana Ms. Anne-Claire Dufay, to receive the vaccines at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.

Her Excellency, Stephanie Sullivan speaking to the media said, these life-saving vaccines, donated on behalf of the American people, will help save Ghanaian lives, as they work together to defeat this virus. 

According to her, Unite State has donated more than 4.2 million COVAX vaccines to help save Ghanaians lives.

She added that, she is so thankful to be sharing these vaccines with Ghanaians friends and urged the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to transfer these vaccines for all Ghanaians to get their jabs.

She stressed that, she were all happy to hear that, the Ministry of Health has approved the vaccines for the use on the children from 15 and above.

According to him, the donation is part of President Joe Biden’s pledge of donation 1.1 billion doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine worldwide.

Cape Coast Highway: Obofour church members involve in an accident living three dead

Three persons have been reported dead with scores injured in a fatal accident at Esuehyia on the Ekumfi-Cape Coast Highway in the Central Region.

The accident, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, involved church members of Anointed Palace Chapel whose founder and leader is Rev. Obofour who were traveling is a bus with registration number GT 6472-20 and a tipper truck.

According to some eyewitnesses, the said passenger bus was conveying the church members from Takoradi to Accra.

They added that, the driver of the bus who was suspected to be speeding crashed into the tipper truck which had been wrongfully parked on the opposite side of the road.

They noted this, in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision with another passenger bus approaching from the opposite direction the driver had no other option than to crash with the tipper truck.

The bus was badly damaged with broken glasses as well as the belongings of passengers scattered around the scene.

The victims have since been conveyed to the Apam Catholic Hospital, Saltpond and Mankessim for treatment.

A towing car has been dispatched to remove the vehicle to the Esuhenyia Police Station with personnel at the scene to direct traffic.

The economy is in an intensive unit- Ato Forson

The Ranking Member on the Finance Committee in Parliament, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson has stated that, the Ghanaian economy is in an intensive unit.

Speaking at the floor of Parliament today whiles debating on the 2022 budget statement and Economic Policy, Hon. Ato Forson said, the Ghanaian economy is sick from what they call “spatulation” with dept overhand syndrome.

The budget dubbed ‘Agyenkwa’ was read by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta on November 17, 2021. It proposed several policies aimed at raising revenue for the country and boosting the economy.

During the budget presentation, the Minister announced the introduction of new policies including the scrapping of road toll and the introduction of the ‘YouStart’ programme aimed at bridging the unemployment gap.

The Minority in Parliament are opposing this levy, insisting that it will kill the digitisation agenda.

The Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam legislator added that, “Mr. Speaker, we all know that as we speak there is rise in unemployment in this economy”.

He stressed that, unemployment has become a national security threat and prices of fuel are going up everyday in the country.

Chairman on Finance Committee in parliament who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Hon. Kweku Kwarteng urged the house to approve the budget and give the house the opportunity to consider the element within the budget.

He added that, the country will be thrown into chaos if they fail to do that before January 2022.
