Things are hard in the country- CPP

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has said they are saddened by what they call the insensitivity of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to the economic plight of the ordinary Ghanaian who is struggling to make end meet.

According to the General Secretary of the party, Nana Yaa Jantuah, Ghanaians are suffering in the country because of the increase in fuel prices.

The Finance Minister during the presentation of the budget statement announced a new levy to be charged by government in 2022 on all electronic transactions to widen the tax net and rope in the informal sector.

Speaking to the media, she said, “Through all the changing scenes of hardships and imposition of nuisance and killer taxes which have been handed over to Ghanaians throughout the tenure of this government, it is unthinkable that a 15% increase will be slapped on all government services and here it means that as it stands any Ghanaian having any transaction with government is to pay an additional 15% on all existing charges.

She added that, this is unacceptable and is a predetermined act of exploitation and a calculated attempt to ensure that the Ghanaian Masses are totally and completely improvised whilst a few of the ruling class stay wealthy and enjoy life to the fullest.

It’s difficult to remove the President from office- Obiri Boahen jabs Speaker

Deputy General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen has jabbed the speaker of Parliament, Hon. Rt. Alban Bagbin for stating that, he can remove President Akufo Addo from office.

According to him, it is difficult to remove the President from Office but easier to remove the Speaker from his position.

He added that, President has the ultimate power followed by the Vice President before the Speaker according to the Ghana’s constituency.

Alban Bagbin, Ghana's Speaker of Parliament has said the laws of the land give the House power to remove President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo from office anytime.

He asserted that the President cannot remove the Speaker of Parliament.

But Lawyer Obiri Boahen said, the President needs two-third of the Members of Parliament if he wants to impeach the Speaker but it’s very difficult to impeach the first gentleman of the land.

He added that, maybe the Speaker made the context in a playful mood.
