I was not invited to court – Nhyiaeso MP
Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso, Dr. Stephen Amoah has denied assertions of failing to appear in court after he had been arrested by the police for offending road traffic regulations.
Speaking to the media, Hon. Sticker said, he was not invited by the police to appear before the court.
According to him,the whole story resulted from a miscommunication on the part of the Police.
The legislator expressed surprise stressing that he was not informed about having to appear in court.
He added that, the charge sheet was given to him at the court in the presence of his lawyers and they were shocked so all those issues, all those hullaballoo, he really didn’t understand what was going on.
The Police on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, sought a bench warrant for the arrest of Dr. Stephen Amoah, the MP for Nhyiaeso for failing to appear before the La Magistrate Court.
According to the Police, the MP had been charged with various road traffic offences.
Later on Thursday, December 9, 2021, the Police issued a statement indicating that the MP had turned himself in and pleaded with the Court to revoke the arrest warrant.
But Dr. Amoah noted he was unaware of any road traffic offences and was never provided with any charge sheet as stated by the Police.
Hon. Amoah lamented that “We are politically exposed and I am a political risk factor. Why should the Police put my name alongside my car number in the public domain? What crime have I committed? Do they want to kill me? Now I cannot even be driving around”.

Govt to probe performance of 2021 WASSCE students
Government says it will, in the coming days, commission an investigation into the performance of students in this year’s West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASCCE).
Out of the over 400,000 students who sat for the exam, 61,778 failed as per a statement by the Council.
English Language and Core Maths recorded a decline in the performance of candidates as compared to the 2020 performance.
Commenting on the development, Education Minister, Dr Yaw Adutwum was optimistic the outcome of the probe will shape and improve upon results of students in the near future.
Speaking to the media at the Parliament house, he said, “Actually, the average is 60 per cent, certain subjects [rate] went up, others dipped but if you put it on average it is still 60 per cent.
According to him, if they look at English for example, there was a dip, mathematics there was a dip but Integrated Science saw huge jump and Social Studies saw an increase and so overall, the average is still 60 per cent.
But he added “I just want to assure you that Mathematics should not see a dip in my time as somebody who has taught mathematics. So we are going to look at what went wrong and what we can do, which school did so well and then we are going to look at how best to ensure that we move up.
Hon. Adutwum noted that, the good news is that two years in a row, they had in the core subjects seen 50 per cent plus pass rate which means more students will then qualify to go to the university because in the past years, what happened was, they may have 70 per cent or 80 per cent pass in social studies, and mathematics is 33 per cent because mathematics is 33 per cent, you can’t have more than 33 per cent of the students going to the university so, if English is 30 percent, even if all the subjects are 70 per cent, you can’t have more than 30 per cent going to the university.
