The Minority in Parliament has stated that the withdrawal of military protection for the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin is an assault on Parliament.
The Ghana Armed Forces has withdrawn military personnel attached to the security detail of the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin for his protection.
A letter from the Ghana Armed Forces addressed to the Speaker said the officers were deployed without proper procedure.
However, the soldiers have been with the Speaker since January 2021 when he assumed office.
Government has dismissed suggestions that the decision to withdraw the military attachment to the Speaker of Parliament by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is an attempt to stifle his protection.
But, the Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament who doubles as the MP for Banda Constituency, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim has described the action by the Armed Forces as worrying adding that the military protection for the Speaker is backed by law.
According to him, there are some people in the country who are been guarded by Soldiers who are not Ministers.
