Gangsterism unbecoming of Muslim youth – Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu

The spokesperson of the National Chief Imam Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu has described the recent clash between gangs from the Nima-Mamobi areas as contradictory to the teachings of Islam.

Speaking to the media, he noted that upon seeing footage of the clash he was shocked and disappointed.

According to him, definitely the sight was one that evoked shock, disappointment, worry, anxiety, fear, sadness and everything that one can associate with these negative emotions as a result of such a development which in their view is a needless kind of development.

He added that, the people involved in the clash failed to exercise Muslim values which included tolerance, respect for the sanctity of human blood and the sacredness of life and all those things are things that Islam upholds.

Sheik Armiyao stressed that, for an area where you see, I mean, more than 5 times a day the blaring of the horns of the Azzan in an area of such nature and every day we hear the sermons and to have such if you like brigandary, or if you like kind of clashes of irate young people must be something that is worrying. And I find in it a certain contradiction”.

Security Expert, Mr Richard Kumordzi reacting to this on Silver fm Omanbapa morning show with Nana Ampratwum attributed the clash to the failure of the Police prosecute these gang members over the time.

According to him, it is high time Ghanaians desist accusing the Muslim communities for been responsible for all attacks in the communities.

Nima violence: Police arrest 2 more suspects; on manhunt for gang leaders

Two more persons are in the grips of the police over their alleged role in the sporadic shooting incident at Nima, a suburb of Accra on January 18, 2022.

This brings to nine, the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the clashes at Nima.

Seven persons were earlier arrested over the shoot-out, which occurred during a clash between the two gangs on Tuesday.

Five persons were in police custody, while two were hospitalized under police guard.

Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori speaking to the media said, the extra two suspects were arrested at a hideout at Asalaga with weapons on them.

According to him, the two were arrested due to the effective intel of the police service in collaboration with the good people of this country, they were able to arrested two of them with weapons, unregistered motorbikes and unlawful possessing of security uniforms.

He added that, all the nine suspects are currently in the Police Custody assisting with investigations.

COVID-19: Ghana to start booster shot, says health minister

The ministry of health has revealed that Ghana will start giving COVID-19 booster doses to some selected members of the population.

Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye speaking to the media said, “National immunization technical advisory group (NITAG), proposed the following key recommendations to booster doses; which have been endorsed. As the initial COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy strategy, NITAG proposed that the under listed segmented population should have boosters; health care workers, persons with underlined medical conditions, persons 60 years and above, frontline security personnel, members of the executive, judiciary and legislator.”

According to him, they will be focusing on some selected persons and venues while they get a reasonable number of Ghanaians vaccinated and in view of this, they are planning to have national COVID-19 vaccination days to boost the coverage among the general population.

He added that, pregnant women in Ghana can now be vaccinated against the COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that, recent studies across the globe including Ghana show that pregnant women are now safe to take the COVID-19 jab.

He stressed that, the booster is another way of protecting yourselves while continuing wearing the nose mask.

E-Levy saga: We have never been consulted by Gov’t- Minority

Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim has chastised the government for their inability to allow co-existence between the Majority and Minority in parliament.

According to him, the government has never consulted the Minority since the confusing erupted in parliament to deliberate on the 2022 budget.

The Banda Lawmaker added that, the Majorities are in somewhere enjoying themselves.

He made this known after the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has said that the Electronic Transaction Levy (e-Levy) Bill will be resubmitted when Parliament reconvenes on January 25, 2021.

The Minister, in a media briefing on Wednesday, said the e-levy is critical to rebuilding Ghana’s economy.

For this reason Ken Ofori Atta called on both sides of the House to “look forward in joining hands to approve the e-levy on a consensus basis so that we collectively address the big issue of unemployment, debt sustainability, infrastructure and especially build our roads.”

But Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim revealed that, nobody has called any NDC MP to help let peace prevail at the parliament except the Peace Council.

He noted that, the Majorities actions suggest that, they are not ready to allow peace prevail.

GH¢1.2 Billion Road Fund Loan to Settle Contractors Go Missing – NPP Man ‘Uncovers’ Chop Chop

Richard Nyamah, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has bemoaned the level of ‘chop chop’ going on in his own government.

In an interview with the media in Accra, Mr Nyamah said some GHS1.2billion meant to pay road contractors have suddenly gone missing with no one to answer for it.

According to him, “The GH¢1.2 billion when the new road fund board took office was not there. The money that was contracted, the loan they took it they didn’t disburse it”.

Mr. Richard Nyamah continued that, he has a problem with the government and that is why contractors will do what they are doing.”
