Majority Leader’s emotional New Year Message to Parliamentarians

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has urged his colleague MPs to use the New Year as an occasion to reconnect and reconcile with one another.

In an interview the media, the Suame MP called for reconciliation.

According to him, this is because the 8th Parliament did not take off on the right foot in 2021, nor did it end on a good note as expected.

He added that, “In Parliament, in particular, we did not begin on a good note in 2021, and unfortunately when we thought that we will be ending on a good note, we didn’t and it’s all traceable to misunderstanding”.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said when both sides of the House allow the law to work, “they will be able to come together by ending all the commotions that happened in Parliament in the past year.

He stressed that, at the heart of the understanding is the possession of the law, their understanding of the law and he thinks that if they (parliamentarians) allow the law affection for one another to band them together, they will come to some determination that they are addendum.

He noted that, he hope and pray that this New Year will pressure them into a new plateau which then would afford them the development that all of them wish for this country.

He, therefore, called for Ghanaians to do a serious introspection in the lives they led in the past year 2021.

‘Scale up investigations to expose and prosecute killers of Ahmed Suale’ – GJA urges police

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is urging the Police to do more to find the killers of private investigator Ahmed Suale.

President of GJA, Roland Affail Monney speaking to the media during a GJA/UNESCO migration training programme, GJA said the killing is one of the reasons Ghana continues to drop in press freedom rankings.

According to him, they are overly worried that three years along the line, nothing has been done to expose, let alone deal surgically with the perpetrators of this heinous crime.

He added that, “We were promised by the President last year that the perpetrators will be found. Early on, there had been such promises that the Police were closing in the criminals, but nobody has been arrested as we speak.

“This is one causal factor which tends to cause us to slip with decline on the league table of free media systems in Africa and the world. We expect our law and order community to scale up the efforts to expose the killers of Ahmed Suale and make them stand trial and if they are found guilty, they should taste the bitter end of the law,” Mr Monney appealed.

Ahmed Suale, who was with the Tiger Eye Private Investigations, was shot dead three years ago near his family home in Madina.

He was shot three times, twice in the chest and another in the neck by unidentified men while he was driving home.

The murder came shortly after the release of the ‘Number-12′ documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI.

Before the murder, the Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, had incited people to attack the journalist.

The founder and leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie has clarified that Umuofia is a city based in Ethiopia.

Prophet Nigel Gaisie made some airwaves with his 31st watch night.

His prophecy which has generated some arguments is the one he prophesized that, he has seen death of Umuofia first lady and again saw a famous DJ fall in Umuofia.

He again said, we should pray for the journalism association of Umuofia, in my vision I saw one of the prominent men saying bye bye, this man I saw has a connection with the Central Western of Umuofia.

But Prophet Gaisie stressed that, he has come to understand that, Ghana doesn’t like prophecies hence their decision to prophecy in another country where they feel welcome.

According to him, he will no longer prophecy in the country (Ghana) anymore but will do so in other countries.

The Police cautioned religious groups and leaders to be measured in their prophetic utterances ahead of the December 31 watchnight services.

Strike is not the best option, innocent children end up suffering – Otumfuo to teachers

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has tasked teachers to adopt an improved way of negotiation rather than resorting to strike whenever their concerns are not addressed.

He argued that, school children are the ones who face the consequences of such actions and not politicians.

He was addressing members of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) at their 6th Quadrennial National Delegates conference.

On several occasions, teachers resort to industrial action when government fails to address their grievances.

This they claim is the only and effective language government understands.

But the Asantehen said “Obviously, those who really suffer are the innocent children. I urge you all to focus your minds on the need for an improved way for negotiations and consultations which will minimize, if not eliminate, any recourse to industrial action and the harmful consequences on our children.”

He also urged policy makers to work to ensure that the conditions of teachers are improved.

“While we will always urge moderation in the face of the national economic realities, we will nonetheless, urge policy makers to ensure that the status of our teachers truly reflect the level of importance we attach to their place in society,” he said.
