We won’t continue to take E-levy if the NDC wins power in 2024 – Sammy Gyamfi
We won’t continue to take E-levy if the NDC wins power in 2024 – Sammy Gyamfi
The National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has reiterated that, the party will cancel the E-levy policy, if it wins the 2024 general elections.
According to him, the tax imposes hardship on citizens, therefore the NDC will repeal it, if it assumes the reins of power.
Speaking in an interview with the media, Sammy Gyamfi argued that, government’s decision to impose a 1.5% levy on electronic transactions is unfair.
He added that, “The General Secretary of the party has already said so. He’s my boss. He’s the Chief Executive Officer of the party, [and] he has said so. And I believe that he has the blessing of the leadership of the party, and that is a party position that we do not subscribe to the E-levy and we will not continue to take E-levy from Ghanaians should power change hands”.
He noted that, they need to bring honesty to the politics they do in this country if the E-levy is bad now, it cannot be good in 2025 and he believe that the NDC will stand by that position the General Secretary has announced.
In his view, the E-levy is a double taxation which affects medium of payment.
He also reiterated that, concerned citizens should not blame the NDC for the passage of the Bill into law.

2021 BECE: Private schools alleged discrimination, demand re-marking of scripts
The Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNCOP) has called for an independent probe into the marking of scripts of BECE candidates from private schools in the country.
Candidates in private schools often do much better than their counterparts in public schools, but the Council argued that private school candidates are being deliberately marked down in the BECE to give candidates from public schools an upper hand.
The President of GNACOP, Enoch Gyetuah, in an interview with the media alleged discrimination has resulted in the challenges many parents whose wards registered for the BECE with private schools are facing.
According to him, most of the private school students have been marked down, and they are calling for re-marking and even calling for an independent body to go into that.
He also observed that parents of private schools enroll their wards in public schools for their final examinations to avoid discrimination.
Mr. Gyetuah, therefore, called for transparency in the school placement, which he said has been skewed to benefit persons from public schools.

However, Mr. Aboagye Mensah who is in charge of school placement at the GES in the Ashanti region reacting to this blamed GNACOP for this problem.
According to him, most private schools do not attend any workshop organized by GES after the school selection placement.
He added that, their reasons for not attending these workshops are that, they are not under GES.

SHS Placement: GES boss speaks on bribery allegations
Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah, has addressed issues of bribery allegations that have characterized the Computer School Selection Placement Exercise (CSSPS).
He said his outfit always hears of such allegations and people involved in such acts even at GES and has over time confronted such persons and investigations conducted.
According to him, “We hear of such cases and some are even direct. Some of the things we are doing to discover such people, we cannot say them. I remember somewhere last year, we had an NSS person who was with us, all of a sudden he started buying lunch for the staff and we later realized that he was even one of those persons.
He added that, sometimes they even hear names and when that happens, they either confront them or even investigate them.
His comment comes on the back of allegations by some parents that their wards are being rejected from schools they have been placed into due to lack of space, while others are being asked to make huge payments before their wards get into boarding houses.
