Akufo-Addo plants African mahogany to mark second edition of Green Ghana day

 President Akufo-Addo has planted a tree in commemoration of the second edition of the Green Ghana day.

While the President planted a Moringa Tree (tree of life) last year to mark the occasion, he planted the African mahogany tree this year.

Addressing the gathering at the Efua Sutherland Park, the President acknowledged the relevance of the occasion, stressing that this is part of efforts to recover the country’s lost forest cover.

According to him, “we are embarking on an aggressive aforestation and re-aforestation program aimed at restoring the country’s lost forest cover and halting the current rate of deforestation,” he said.

The Green Ghana initiative was started in 2021. Under the first edition, a target for planting 5 million trees was set, however, at the end of the exercise, it emerged that 7 million trees were planted.

President Akufo-Addo, during his speech at the Efua Sutherland Park, thanked the citizenry for being a part of the first edition which he described as a success.

Lands and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor also said, so far they have planted about 123.2 hectares of Achimota forest since 2018.

I’m not father Christmas, says Ofosu-Ampofo as he shuts down poultry farm

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has said he is closing down his poultry farm after almost 25 years of operation.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo says he can no longer buy feed as it has become very expensive.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Ofosu said, he is closing down is poultry farm after 25 years because he can’t buy feed because it is very expensive.

According to him, he spoke to his farm manager and told him that, he is not father Christmas because he always borrow money to finance the farm and he knows others are also facing same and so he’s forced to close the farm down because it is not worth going into it again.

To the NDC chairman, Ghana is in a complete mess under President Nana Akufo-Addo as he has failed to think outside the box with regards to the economic situation.

He questioned why the prices of goods and services are skyrocketing in Ghana but not same situation with other neighboring countries.

Military vehicle involved in accident

A military vehicle with personnel on board has reportedly been involved in an accident at Obuoho Suhum-Asamankese in the Eastern Region.

They were travelling in a military pickup with registration number GA 76 39.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 10, 2022.

Information gathered by Silver news indicates the troops had been deployed for Operation Halt duties.

Though the cause is not immediately known, a video intercepted by Silver News captured some of the soldiers on the ground.

Unseen officer, believed to be the leader, was heard asking some personnel who seemed to have escaped unhurt to pack their colleagues’ rifles into the vehicle amid screams for first aid to be administered.

The victims are currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.

Green Ghana 2022: Cutting down trees is not helping the country- S. O Frimpong

Ghana has today marked the 2022 Green Ghana Day with an attempt to plant 20 million trees.

Local government officials, ministers and traditional authorities led efforts to plant seeding across Ghana’s regions.

The Green Ghana Day was introduced as part of a national aforestation and reforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Ejisu Municipality, Hon. S. O Frimpong during the planting of the seeds at Akyawkrom said, cutting down trees is not helping the country.

Speaking to Silver fm’s Ama Asiamah Yeboah said, the level of the sun shining on Ghanaians is very alarming due to the frequent cutting of trees.

According to him, Ghanaians should engage themselves in this activity and plant some seeds to grow to help the weather condition in the country.

He however stated that, anyone who wishes to cut down trees should seek a permit before cutting down trees.

Project Manager of the Green Ghana at the Municipal, Hon. Andy Osei Ocran also urged the Chiefs and residents of Akyawkrom to protect the seeds that have been planted to enable them grow beautifully.

Green Ghana 2022: Monitor the seeds that have been planted- MCE to Forestry Commission

Ghana has today marked the 2022 Green Ghana Day with an attempt to plant 20 million trees.

Local government officials, ministers and traditional authorities led efforts to plant seeding across Ghana’s regions.

The Green Ghana Day was introduced as part of a national aforestation and reforestation programme to restore the lost forest cover of Ghana and contribute to the global effort to mitigate climate change.

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Offinso Municipality, Hon. Kwasi Karikari Acheampong speaking to the media urged the Municipal Forestry Commission to monitor all the seeds that have been planted across the Municipal.

According to him, they should keep records of people who came for the seeds and keep visiting their place to ascertain the condition of the plant this he said, will help them achieve their aim.

He commended President Akufo Addo for this initiative saying, they will continue to support him.

Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Hon. Collins Adomako Mensah also pleaded with the Chiefs and people in the area to adopt some places to monitor the seeds they have planted.

He said watering of the seeds is one of the key factors that will help make the trees grow.
