We’re fighting corruption with systems, not rhetoric – Bawumia

The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia , has urged the church to continue to use the pulpit and religious platforms to partner with the state to fight corruption and facilitate the development of the nation. Bawumia made the call at the ordination and consecration service of Very Reverend Dr Kotei Neequaye as the new Suffragan Bishop for the Church. Addressing the congregation, Bawumia touted the Anglican Church for using its platforms to preach against corruption. Bawumia enumerated scores of policies and programmes the government has put in place to fight corruption including the digitisation of the economy through address system, ports, the Ghanacard, passport office, DVLA, GRA, SSNIT, NHIS, Lands Commission, Ghana.Gov platform, and others as evidence of Government’s commitment to fighting corruption. Asiedu Nketia reveals NPP’s difficulty in e-levy passage

  General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed why the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is having difficulty in passing the Electronic Transactions Levy aka E-Levy. Speaking to the media, he said the NPP government cannot mobilise the 138 parliamentarians to vote for the passing of the levy because some are against the levy. According to him, he is surprise that, the NPP keeps blaming the NDC on the levy claiming that they are preventing them but on this particular occasion, the Minority said they don’t agree and therefore won’t vote and not that they are preventing the NPP from voting. He added that, the Majority carries the vote and so they should mobilize their 138 MPs and vote on the levy but he thinks they are finding it difficult because even their own MPs are unwilling to vote for the passing of the levy. E-levy saga: We will continue to engage the Minority- Dep. Finance Minister

  Deputy Finance Minister, Hon. John Kumah has hinted that, they will continue to engage the Minority in Parliament to approve the e-levy. A meeting between the Minister for Finance and the leadership of the Minority group over the controversial electronic transfer levy yesterday ended in deadlock. The engagement, which took place in Parliament, ended inconclusively following the failure of the parties to reach common ground. But the Ejisu lawmaker speaking to the media said, they will continue to dialogue on the issue to find an agreeable position on the tax measure that has sharply divided the house. The E-levy is a new tax measure introduced by the government in the 2022 Budget on basic transactions related to digital payments and electronic platform transactions. Gangsterism unbecoming of Muslim youth – Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu

The spokesperson of the National Chief Imam Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, Sheikh Armiyao Shaibu has described the recent clash between gangs from the Nima-Mamobi areas as contradictory to the teachings of Islam. Speaking to the media, he noted that upon seeing footage of the clash he was shocked and disappointed. Group calls on President Akufo-Addo to reinstate Bagbin’s soldiers

A group calling itself Crossfire Ghana is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to intervene in President Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin’s security heckling to avert the unexpected.
